Surcharge Savings Calculator
The surcharge savings calculator shows how much of your card processing fees you can recover by adding a surcharge to credit card payments. Recovered fees are capped at your processing rate, since a surcharge can't exceed what you pay to accept the card.
Surcharging is restricted or banned in some countries and states, and card networks have their own rules. Read our guide to card surcharges for what to check before enabling it.
A credit card surcharge is an extra fee added to a payment made by credit card. It passes part or all of the card processing cost on to the customer.
The calculator applies the lower of your surcharge and your processing rate to your monthly credit card sales. The processing rate defaults to 2.9%, the US Stripe fee. The yearly figure is the monthly figure multiplied by 12.
A surcharge is meant to offset what you pay to accept the card, not to make a profit. Card network rules and many local laws limit the surcharge to your actual processing cost, so the calculator never counts more than that.
Major card networks cap credit card surcharges at 3% to 4%, depending on the network and region. Local laws can set a lower limit or ban surcharges altogether.
In most places, no. Surcharges usually apply only to credit cards, so enter only your credit card sales, not debit card sales.
